The first patients arrived into the newly, refurbished Medicine B3 Inpatient Unit (formerly TCU) from at 10 a.m. on January 17, 2025. John was among those first to arrive to his new room. The new space featured a large window, flooding the room with natural light. It also included the most modern equipment and tools in the region to-date to support his care journey.
Staff checked their lists thrice with each passing patient. They checked every piece of equipment, and also ensured personal belongings were tracked. As each patient arrived, they engaged and welcomed them. A necessary process to ensure they were comfortable and adjusting to the new space. Nothing was to be missed.
The dedicated efforts of these teams—including having to navigate a new space, re-organize patient records, and more—does not go unnoticed among the bustle of moving parts. The atmosphere remained cheerful even as staff were perhaps daunted by the changes and thrilled. The modern spaces will change the way our patients receive care.
Krysta Garton, Professional Practice Manager & Nursing Advisory Council Chair shared in a recent story after guiding community members on Saturday, that: “Today felt full circle for me—a moment of reflection and gratitude for everything we’ve achieved and everything that’s yet to come. I now remind myself that our change in path of travel, throughout the years, just deepened my connection to our community and allowed conversations that inspired me to stay true to my career.”
These words are as relevant then as they are today. We, as an organization that is diverse and ready to serve, must navigate the next few days of moving and the weeks to follow of adjusting. It is a moment all staff have been preparing for.
The moves themselves are a coordinated effort. A dance. Staff from across the hospital have come together. From EVS and IPAC preparing the rooms, to the clinicians that stay close to their assigned patient, tracking their wellbeing and much more.
Each role has its purpose and that purpose is engrained within our will to keeping people at the heart of all we do.
It is truly a team effort!
