Laboratory Services
The Laboratory provides 24/7 services to meet the clinical needs of inpatients and CMH-only registered outpatients.
If you are registered as a patient at CMH and scheduled for treatment, you must use the Laboratory Patient Services if you need testing.
The lab is located in Wing D, Level 0. Laboratory Patient Services can be accessed Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (0800 - 1600h). Laboratory Patient Services is closed evenings, weekends and on holidays.

Ensure you are registered by the clinic following your care or at Patient Registration. As a CMH registered patient, no appointment is required for you to get tests.
When you arrive to Patient Laboratory Services, you will need to present your health card to the Laboratory Reception.
Please bring any personal assistive devices that you require when you visit Patient Laboratory Services. For example, any communication or mobility device you may need like a walker, hearing aid, etc.
Kindly note that CMH has a no scent policy. Please refrain from using or wearing perfumes, scented deodorants and scented products before coming to hospital.
Laboratory Services provides 24/7 services to all clinical programs as needed. The program comprises of a number of departments that play a unique role in a patient’s care journey:
- Anatomical Pathology prepares samples of tissue. These aid in the microscopic detection and diagnosis of disease.
- Chemistry analyzes blood and body fluids to detect chemicals, enzymes, hormones, and/or drugs.
- Hematology performs tests to measure blood cells and to detect diseases/disorders of the blood
- Microbiology performs tests on blood, body fluids and/or tissue to detect bacteria, fungus, viruses, and/or parasites.
- Point of Care Testing oversees quality programs for lab testing at the patient bedside.
- Transfusion Medicine performs blood typing and compatibility testing for safe transfusion of blood and blood products.

No. Patient Laboratory Services only processes internal requisitions made by CMH doctors, clinicians and staff to ensure fast turnaround times. All outside requisitions, like the ones issued by family physicians and nurse practitioners, must be done in a community-based laboratory (e.g., Life Labs, Dynacare. , etc.).
No. Many of the tests are scheduled on or close to the day of your treatment to ensure accuracy. Others may be specialized that require special equipment or a specific set of skills. For these reasons, registered CMH patients must go the Patient Laboratory Services for their tests. If you have any concerns, please speak with your care team.
The Patient Laboratory Services is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Patient Laboratory Services is located in Wing D, level 0 in the Outpatient Clinics area.
Park in Lot #4 for quick access to the laboratory or get dropped off at the covered entrance. Enter through the Wing D entrance (#11 on the level 1 map) and go to the Wing D elevator Lobby (#12). Take the elevator down to level 0 and turn right.
The closest pay machine for parking is by Switchboard (#10 on the level 1 map), right beside the Wing C entrance, accepting all forms of payment include cash, credit and debit. You may also pay at the exit gate with credit card or debit, but not cash.
CMH's Laboratory is licensed under the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act (LSCCLA); it is also a certified, accredited medical laboratory (ISO 15189 plus) from Accreditation Canada Diagnostics; and it has a Choosing Blood Wisely designation from Choosing Wisely Canada. This means our facility is regulated by the Act, has certifications/designations that credit CMH’s Laboratory for maintaining the highest standards in its operation, performance of only necessary medical tests, and collection of specimens as required by the regulating body.

If you are only visiting the hospital for a Laboratory test (e.g., bloodwork), park in Lot #4 by the Wing C and D. Enter the hospital through Wing D covered entrance and drop-off doors. See the map below for more guidance.
At times, there may be parking disruptions due to construction. Always ask the booking clerk where is it is best to park when you come to hospital.
