CAMBRIDGE, ON – The Cambridge Memorial Hospital Volunteer Association (CMHVA) has renamed its Recovery Room Thrift Shop as Upcycle Thrift, introducing a fresh identity that reflects current marketing trends and a renewed commitment to the hospital and community.
Located at 38 Ainslie Street South in downtown Cambridge, Upcycle Thrift offers gently used clothing, some of which are designer brands, jewelry, books, linens, and any other collectibles.
“Upcycle Thrift gives a familiar community shop a fresh, welcoming identity while keeping its purpose firmly rooted in service,” said Mark Squire, President of the CMHVA Board. “Every purchase and donation helps us continue supporting Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the patients it serves.”
The shop is one of several CMHVA businesses and programs supporting patient care, alongside the Gift Shop, Tim Hortons, vendor program and Angel of Caring campaign. At its June 2026 AGM, the Association surprised CMH with a $110,000 donation, supported in part by proceeds from the thrift shop.
Since 1891, generations of volunteers have welcomed patients and visitors, supported hospital programs and raised funds to enhance care.
“CMHVA volunteers are often the first face of CMH,” said Patrick Gaskin, CMH President and CEO. “Their remarkable legacy of service and fundraising demonstrates the strength of a community coming together to enhance care.”
The CMHVA and CMH Foundation support the hospital in different but complementary ways: the Association through volunteerism and its business operations, and the Foundation by inspiring donors and leading philanthropic fundraising.
“Although our organizations contribute in different ways, we share the same goal: helping bring the best possible care to the residents of Cambridge and North Dumfries,” said Lisa Short, CMH Foundation President and CEO. “Upcycle Thrift is another meaningful expression of that shared commitment.”

Founded in 1891, the CMHVA is an incorporated non-profit organization that enriches the hospital experience through exceptional volunteers and businesses. More than 300 volunteers support patients, families and staff in roles ranging from front-door ambassadors to clinical-area support. Proceeds from CMHVA businesses and fundraising initiatives are directed to patient care and hospital priorities.
