Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) welcomed close to 50 healthcare representatives and Patient and Family Advisors from organizations across southwestern Ontario for a 2026 Patient Experience Regional Roundtable.
Presented by The Beryl Institute, hosted by CMH and held at Langs Community Health Centre on September 17, 2026, the event created space for participants to share practical strategies, discuss common challenges and learn from one another.
The conversations explored issues that matter to patients, families and communities, including:
- Improving access and communicating more clearly about wait times
- Creating meaningful patient and family partnerships
- Strengthening Indigenous relationships and cultural safety
- Using digital tools and artificial intelligence responsibly
- Keeping human connection at the centre of care
- Engaging physicians and healthcare leaders in patient experience
Participants shared examples from their own organizations, identified roadblocks and explored ideas that could improve care. Discussions ranged from making waiting areas more supportive and setting clearer expectations for patients to ensuring technology improves access without replacing the personal connections that build trust.
A recurring message throughout the day was the importance of involving patients, families and communities early, listening with curiosity and turning what is heard into meaningful action.
The Cambridge gathering was part of an international series that also includes events in Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas and Charlotte. The Beryl Institute is a global community focused on improving the human experience in healthcare and recognizes that patient experience is closely connected to quality, safety, service and health outcomes.
Thank you to Langs for welcoming the event, to Ideagen and HIROC for their sponsorship, and to everyone who contributed their experiences and ideas to the conversation.
